What do you get out of every drop you pay for at the pump? Just mere kilometers travelled or a whole lot of pure driving pleasure?
Here's what we think: our fuel efficiency may not be top in class, but we're not far off either. If being the most fuel efficient in class meant having to compromise on our driving dynamics, we’d rather not. We’re MAZDA. We build cars that are spirited and fun-to-drive on the open roads.
However, it is still our aim to meld pure driving pleasure with excellent environmental and safety performance. For example, the fuel efficiency of the Mazda2 and Mazda6 are not far from the best. In fact, they’re on par, if not only second to the most fuel efficient Japanese brand*.
In June '08, Mazda announced a target date of 2015 for achieving our goal of improving the average fuel economy of Mazda cars sold globally by 30% (from 2008 levels). The concept car, Kiyora was developed in view of this future. Powered by the next-generation Mazda SKY-G 1.3L gasoline engine mated to a next-generation Mazda SKY-Drive transmission, this achieves an ultra-high fuel economy of 32KM/L.
